Following the release of Under The Radar-approved debut album ‘Teenage Sweetheart’, Finnish garage-pop band Have You Ever Seen The Jane Fonda Aerobic VHS? return to the UK for a high energy festival run, equipped with the self-proclaimed “summer anthem for the free minded” ‘Magic Swimming Pants’. The band’s live capabilities were recently described by Ja Ja Ja as “thundering”, and with their first UK tour and showcase sets at The Great Escape, Roskilde and Flow festival under the belt, their credentials are evident. Leopallooza, Farmfest and Kendal Calling can all expect a raucous performance over the last weekend of July.
Casio keyboards and Eco-organs still replace the customary guitar as their weapon of choice for delivering ear splitting riffs – an unusual move that has set them apart from their peers. Combine this approach with a name like HYESTJAFVHS and it’s easy to see why the trashy punk trio have never struggled to grab people’s attention. Between Susanna Stemma-Sihvola’s 60’s girl group/soul-melodies, Ekku Lintunen’s bubble gum punk riffs and Janne-Petteri Pitkälä’s pounding drums, ‘Magic Swimming Pants’ stays true to the group’s usual high-energy attitude, surreal lyrics and earworm melodies, and serves as the perfect introduction to the forthcoming second album.

The band’s previous single ‘Family Man’ received support from the likes of BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens and Phil Taggart, and ‘Be My Baby’ won Steve Lamacq’s ‘Round Table’ on BBC 6 Music. They’ve received a similarly high level of praise online from international sites like Consequence of Sound, Clash, Gold Flake Paint and Drowned In Sound, so expect a miraculous splash when HYESTJAFVHS return to the UK’s stages and stereos this summer.
