Shivum Sharma, an eighteen-year-old Londoner, who sings with a maturity and vulnerability beyond his years, and not to mention he’s been setting the music blogoshpere alight over the past few days. Taking inspiration from Aphex Twin to Amy Winehouse to Fever Ray, this kid listens to good music, so he might as well make some with a voice like that. “Flicker” is a careful handling of an often difficult subject matter, a tender and uncertain sexual encounter, but Sharma does it well. The focus of this track is on his drifting vocals, set over a sparse piano and a bit of bedroom-production trickery. You might not have heard of him yet, but you will.
Shivum Sharma – Flicker (Bedroom Demo)
With inspirations ranging from Aphex Twin to Amy Winehouse and Fever Ray to Antony and the Johnsons, 18-year old London’er Shivum Sharma surely knows what’s good. The demo he recorded in his bedroom of a new song of his titled Flicker hints towards the latter singer, with the charm and tenderness of Perfume Genius and the surrealism of Oneothrix Point Never shining through. You might just wanna go sit down for this one, as it will instantly strike you.
