Golda: City Girls

Following a string of ecclesiastical singles, GOLDA are pleased to announce their debut EP ‘The GOLDA Complex’, released via tastemaker label Majestic Casual. The five track EP includes the simmering single ‘NsfW’ and hard hitting R&B joint ‘Villain’, each song telling a twisted narrative of inner conflict, vicarious satisfaction and loss of control. Blurring the boundaries between pop and R&B, the project also defies gendered expectations, instead producing sizzling scenes of sexual desire, with the most salacious parts left to the listener’s imagination. Abandoning sleep because she’s afraid to close her eyes, GOLDA’s only comfort lies in music. Dark, sweaty, drug-infested music that reflects her inner self”. This dark mantra is enrapturing – shrouding the EP in mystery. Drowning in lo-fi samples and sub-bass, new single ‘City Girls’ is textured with complex percussion patterns and intricately layered vocals, inviting the listener into a world of electronic discord and shadowy debauchery.

Golda: City Girls

Mystery is at the very core of their artistry, and ‘The GOLDA Complex’ is a kaleidoscope of 90s R&B samples, fierce chords and smooth vocals, all coated with a heavy dose of sub bass and crackling electronica. The anonymous act’s cryptic portrayal is carried by a warm organ, whilst a somewhat desolate vocal leads the EP’s ethereal sound into a nebulous world of futuristic soundscapes.

Tastemaker label Majestic Casual believes in the “creative, innovative and pioneering music that is floating around the internet, and strives to help it get the recognition it deserves”. GOLDA’s elusive sound certainly fits into this creative agenda, drawing comparisons to music icons such as Frank Ocean, Bryson Tiller and The Weeknd. With support from Complex, Earmilk and Kaltblut Magazine, the enigmatic act is inviting the listener into their intoxicating world. GOLDA is lost. Get lost with GOLDA.

Golda: City Girls Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
She licks her lips, been digging that bitter taste
Shirt wrapped around her waist
Curly hair, bandana
Fist up high, ready to celebrate
Tattoo on her face
That new Americana
Her messed up beauty really wrecked my brain
All these drugs look good on you on the night train
She licks her lips, been digging that bitter taste
Shirt wrapped around her waist
Puffin’ marijuana

[Chorus]
This is for the city girls, ass supersize
City girls, kaleidoscope eyes
Taste it, wasted, oh, you’re ten feet high now, going all out
You say that every wrinkle on your face means that you laughed
Too numb to worry ’bout the sleepless nights you had
Taste it, wasted, oh, you’re ten feet high now, going all out

[Verse 2]
Won’t kill her vibe by talking about her past
Make that feeling last
Urban Cleopatra
Moving slow, chopping up milligrams
Dollarbills in a band
Nothing lasts forever
She lost her way guided by the white lines
Dirt on her knees, jeans and seamless Calvin Klein
Light it up, on any day we could die
Vapors in the sky, only make it better

[Bridge]
This is for the city girls, ass supersize
City girls, kaleidoscope eyes
Now taste it, wasted, oh, you’re ten feet high now, going all out
Going all out, going all out, going all out (schh)
