Whitesnake – Is This Love

Is This Love” is a power ballad by the English rock band Whitesnake. The song is taken from their self-titled album, which released in 1987. The song was written by vocalist David Coverdale and guitarist John Sykes during the albums early writing process (which took place in the south of France), but it was long rumoured that the song had originally been written for rock artist Tina Turner. Coverdale confirmed these rumours in the booklet of Whitesnake’s 20th anniversary edition, by saying: “Before I’d left [for the south of France] a friend at EMI had asked me for any ideas that would work for Tina Turner. So that was where the original idea for ‘Is This Love’ came from.”

Whitesnake - Is This Love

“Is This Love” became one of the most popular Whitesnake songs. The song reached #87 on VH1’s “100 Greatest Love Songs”-list and #10 on their list of “Greatest Power Ballads”. The single was a hit for Whitesnake, reaching number 9 in the UK Singles Chart and number 2 in the US singles chart, making it their second-biggest US hit after “Here I Go Again” which hit number 1. The single was reissued in 1994 to promote Whitesnake’s Greatest Hits, and featured the song “Sweet Lady Luck” (which was previously only available as B-side to “The Deeper the Love”-single) and “Now You’re Gone.” This version reached number 25 on the UK Singles Chart. Whitesnake – Is This Love

This mid-tempo rocker shows the sensitive side of Whitesnake’s frontman David Coverdale, who wrote the song with guitarist John Sykes. Missing the typical Whitesnake swagger, this song finds Coverdale waiting by the phone for his girlfriend to call. About a year before this song was released, Survivor issued a single called “Is This Love” that also asked the question, “Is this love that I’m feeling?” That song went to #9 in the US. @Songfacts.

Whitesnake – Is This Love Lyrics:
I should have known better than to let you go alone.
It’s times like these I can’t make it on my own.
Wasted days and sleepless nights.
And I can’t wait to see you again.

I find I spend my time waiting on your call.
How can I tell you babe? Back’s against the wall.
I Need you by my side to tell me, “It’s alright”.
‘Cause I don’t think I can take anymore.

Is this love that I’m feeling?
Is this the love that I’ve been searching for?
Is this love or am I dreaming?
This must be love ’cause it’s really got a hold on me.
A hold on me…

I can’t stop the feeling, I’ve been this way before.
But with you I’ve found the key to open any door.
I can feel my love for you growing stronger day by day.
And I can’t wait to see you again.
So I can hold you in my arms.

Is this love that I’m feeling?
Is this the love that I’ve been searching for?
Is this love or am I dreaming?
This must be love ’cause it’s really got a hold on me.
A hold on me..

Is this love that I’m feeling?
Is this the love that I’ve been searching for?
Is this love or am I dreaming?
Is this the love that I’ve been searching for?

Is this love or am I dreaming?
Is this the love that I’ve been searching for?
Is this love or am I dreaming?
Is this the love that I’ve been searching for?
