London newcomer Robyn Sherwell is evidently someone who specialises in quiet pause. Self-reflection locked in with a neat bow, her new ‘Tightropes’ track is the most intimate, straight-down-the-line this hyped-up artist’s sounded to date. Previous EP ‘Love Somebody’ is being followed up with new release ‘Islander’. ‘Tightropes’ leads the way, backing up early synth pop efforts with a more direct take on pop, dealing exclusively in honesty. It’s a gorgeous introduction for anyone new to Sherwell’s work, a remarkable bolt-out-of-the-blue for anyone who’s followed her every move.
Tightropes is the new single from London-based chanteur Robyn Sherwell and it comes with the announce of a new EP, called The Islander, which will be released on March 30th via Birdland Records. Tightropes follows the path of her previous offerings, with Sherwell’s mesmerizing voice that stands out over minimal instrumentations. Robyn Sherwell said: “The Islander EP is the follow up the the Love Somebody EP and contains a few more songs that I recorded with David Kosten. Besides Islander and Pale Lung, it includes a ballad called Tightropes which is one of my favourite tracks we’ve done. And Landslide is my take on one of my favourite Fleetwood Mac songs“.
Robyn Sherwell – Tightropes
Robyn Sherwell – Tightropes Lyrics:
You tied the rope for me, for me to walk
You were my wingman, my everything, you were my earth
And I would float along, never looking down
Only living to see a blue sky shining all around
Walking tightropes.
You know it seemed we were walking on air, no gravity.
I never dreamed I’d lose you up there, or see you so differently
See you fall down, completely
I don’t remember when, when we decided we could fly
I never questioned what I could do, anything, if I was at your side
When did our two hearts get so heavy, did I start to drag you down? Up on this wire,
so unsteady, and so far from the ground.
Walking tightropes
You know it seemed we were walking on air, no gravity
I never dreamed I’d lose you up there, or see you so differently,
See you fall down…
Walking tightropes
You know it seemed we were walking on air, no gravity
I never dreamed I’d lose you up there, or see you so differently,
See you fall down, completely
