Cherry Ghost – People Help The People

Cherry Ghost are an indie rock band from Bolton, England. Their debut album, Thirst for Romance, was released in July 2007 and entered the UK Album Charts at No. 7. A second album, entitled Beneath This Burning Shoreline, was released in July 2010 to positive critical acclaim. The name “Cherry Ghost” is a reference to the Wilco song “Theologians” from the album A Ghost Is Born. In March 2008, Simon announced through a MySpace blog posting that the band were at the writing stage for the second album and had seven songs written, which had been distilled from over 50 different tunes. The bulk of the album was written across Europe, namely Berlin and Rome. The band began recording the album in January 2009. A later blog post indicated that the band were recording in a converted barn. On 27 December 2009, Simon posted on MySpace that the second album had been finished and was “due to be mixed in the next month or two.” On 29 April 2010, a message on the band’s MySpace page stated the title of the new album as Beneath This Burning Shoreline, with a release date of 5 July 2010. Beneath This Burning Shoreline was released to positive reviews, garnering 4-star reviews from publications such as Q, The Guardian, and The Independent. The album’s first single, “Kissing Strangers,” was released as a single-track download on 28 June 2010. Wikipedia┬«.

Cherry Ghost – People Help The People

After the gentle bittersweet melancholia of his debut single ‘Mathematics’, Cherry Ghost shows a more passionate side with his single, ‘People Help The People’ on Heavenly Recordings. Theme-wise it’s firmly rooted in trademark Cherry Ghost territory — a lament by the perennial outsider looking for a home. With it’s anthemic chorus, soaring strings and piano and Aldred’s rough-diamond vocals ‘People Help The People’ is a lyrically sophisticated song that combines poetry and rousing melody to create music with both drama and darkness. It also cements Cherry Ghost’s knack of creating songs based on personal stories that have universal appeal.

Cherry Ghost – People Help The People Lyrics:
God knows what is hiding in that weak and drunken heart
I guess you kissed the girls and made them cry
those Hardfaced Queens of misadventure
God knows what is hiding in those weak and sunken eyes
a Fiery throng of muted angels
Giving love and getting nothing back

People help the people
And if your homesick, give me your hand and i’ll hold it
People help the people
And nothing will drag you down
Oh and if I had a brain, Oh and if I had a brain
i’d be cold as a stone and rich as the fool
That turned, all those good hearts away

God knows what is hiding, in that world of little consequence
Behind the tears, inside the lies
A thousand slowly dying sunsets
God knows what is hiding in those weak and drunken hearts
I guess the loneliness came knocking
No on needs to be alone, oh save me

People help the people
And if your homesick, give me your hand and i’ll hold it
People help the people
Nothing will drag you down
Oh and if I had a brain, Oh and if I had a brain
I’d be cold as a stone and rich as the fool
That turned, all those good hearts away

People help the people
And if your homesick, give me your hand and I’ll hold it
People help the people
Nothing will drag you down
Oh and if I had a brain, Oh and if I had a brain
I’d be cold as a stone and rich as the fool
That turned, all those good hearts away.
