Tei Shi – Nevermind The End

Here’s a soulful, time-stretching future-pop gem from promising Brooklyn newcomer Valerie Teicher aka Tei Shi. “Nevermind The End,” which feels a bit more expansive/sprawling than you might expect from a 4-minute pop song, is taken from Tei Shi’s forthcoming, appropriately named “Saudade”:

Tei Shi – Nevermind The End

Raised in Vancouver and Bogotá, and based in Brooklyn, Tei Shi is an artist with a silky voice and ethereal music to match. Her sound, what she likes to call her “mermaid music,” is—intentionally—somewhat hard to categorize, and probably best described as a fusion of indie pop, electronica, and airy ’90s R&B. Entirely on-trend, yet still enticing and distinguished.

Tei Shi will make the back of your thighs tingle with delight. At least that’s what happened when we first heard the Brooklyn-based artist (via Bogota, Vancouver, and Boston) last year. Her debut EP, ‘Saudade,’ is a layered masterpiece of melodies that duck and dive, expertly entwined vocal loops, and shivery sonics. Above is the video for standout track “Nevermind The End.” It’s only her second video ever and features Tei Shi going all Audrey Horne on us in a hotel bedroom with some dead-eyed dude. She’s pretty damn seductive, but dangerous with it too.

Tei Shi – Nevermind The End Lyrics:
I feel the morning coming over.
But if you stay you can leave with me.
I’ll tell you everything I know.
Nowhere left to be.

Rain is falling in the corner.
Above the boys and the moonlit mask.
Just be a shoulder for my head.
All I ever ask.

Annie left me to the lions.
I took a pill and she took my friends.
But there is something right with you.
Nevermind the end, nevermind the end, nevermind the end.

Take me away from here.
Somewhere we can just disappear.
I’ll be your morning light.
If you wanna be my ride tonight.

Take me away from here.
Somewhere we can just disappear.
I’ll be your morning light.
If you wanna be my ride tonight.

Rain is falling in the corner.
Above the boys and the moonlit mask.
Just be a shoulder for my head.
All I ever ask, all I ever ask, all I ever ask.
