Ryn Weaver – Promises

Ryn Weaver, the young singer song writer from NY came out of nowhere when she let loose her first single “OctaHate” about a month ago. Since then the single has racked up about 1.3 million plays and continues to get support from people all over the world. Today Ryn is back with a brand new single titled “Promises”. Keeping with her amazing vocals she is making it clear she is one artists to watch in 2014.

Ryn Weaver – Promises

The track itself incorporates the 90s nostalgia so favoured by “OctaHate” collaborator Charli XCX. Yet whereas Charli’s songwriting veers left-of-centre, Weaver manages to remain completely accessible, with moments of tenderness reminiscent of Taylor Swift as she sings: “Never meant to break my own promises.” With “Promises” Weaver slowly builds and balances the vulnerability and strength embedded in the song, and that’s what makes it exciting. It’s immediately relatable, real, human and completely brilliant.

Ryn Weaver – Promises Lyrics:
Never meant to break my own promises.
Never meant to break my own promises.

Promises, just promises. Promises, just promises.

I get real excuses and generally wasting my time
I find the solutions just seeking my peace of mind
No hocus or pocus, my focus is drunk on the floor
And mumbling something about a one more,

Oh, falling across the line
Keep punching petals at the ember light
I cross my heart and hope to die
Unless I happen to lie, I

Never meant to break my own promises
Never meant to break my own promises
One more night, I said it the last time
This is the last time, say it and now you’re more
Never meant to break my own promises
Break my own promises

Promises, just promises. Promises, just promises.

I said I was trying, I really was driving the cost
The fire the fly, well outside with the latter most
It almost is laughable but when I chuckle I choke
Can’t get the words out my throat of one more
Is that my lion’s pride, I need my mountain then I run and hide
And I cross my heart and hope to die
Unless I happen to lie

Never meant to break my own promises
Never meant to break my own promises
One more night, I said it the last time
This is the last time, say it and now you’re more
Never meant to break my own promises
Break my own promises

Promises, just promises. Promises, just promises.
