New Navy – Heaven

Originally from a small beachside town south of Sydney in 2011 New Navy secured the top spot of the JD Set competition with their dark indie tunes, seeing them share stages with Wolfmother at a sold out Espy show. However after a summer getaway to Bali, the boys changed sonic direction to a more relaxed tropical vibe, playing inspiration to their debut EP; Ulluwatu. Recorded in Sydney and mixed by former Lost Valentinos member Jono Ma, Ulluwatu was released late 2011 to immediate acclaim from tastemakers Triple J radio. The debut single was added directly to high rotation, and was awarded a 5/5 from head honcho Richard Kingsmill. The band went on to achieve a #67 in the prestigious Triple J Hottest 100, and the 5th highest played track on the station for that year. Their second single lifted from the EP, Tapioca also received a huge amount of praise for its upbeat melody, intertwining guitars and pop sensibility. New Navy’s success moved across the globe with radio rotations across Europe and the US, a release on Kitsuné’s trendy Maison Compilation and a collaboration with electronic producer Tiesto before inking a deal with Australian indie label Future Classic. Early in the success of the band saw a departure of singer Ben McInerny from touring due to personal developments, with Luke O’Loughlin taking the reigns and touring as frontman across the band’s national tour. Playing sold out shows in all major cities, New Navy also joined festivals Field Day, Peats Ridge, Musicá, and Sydney Festival sharing stages with the likes of The Whitest Boy Alive, Metronomy, Gotye, Cloud Control, Flight Facilities and SBTRKT. 2012 has seen the band release a version of Telepopmusik’s ‘Breathe’, achieving a huge 150K plays on soundcloud, whilst garnering appreciation from the original artist over twitter. The band has also been back in the studio once again, and is ready to deliver the first of several new singles recorded in Sydney’s iconic REC Studios with producer Craig Willson. ‘Regular Town’ also sees the official joining of Luke O’Loughlin to the band, with his warm melodic vocals across the track.

New Navy – Heaven

New Navy – Heaven Lyrics:
I don’t know why I try when the weight of the world is on
I know a place where I can escape, I can take you along
Wanted to see the sides, but I feel like I’ve seen them all
I could be falling, I could be falling

But it’s not the kind of thing you can talk about
It’s not the kind of thing you can laugh about
It’s not the kind of thing you can do without
But it’s everything, IT’S EVERYTHING

I could be in Heaven. I could be in Heaven
I could be in Heaven
I can’t remember. Yeah, I can’t remember
The last time I felt so alive

Now all of my fears and lies dissipate into outer space
Needless to say that I won’t be needing them anyway
Only a step away but it feels like another life
Only in your, only in your eyes

But it’s not the kind of thing you can talk about
It’s not the kind of thing you can laugh about
It’s not the kind of thing you can do without
But it’s everything, IT’S EVERYTHING

I could be in Heaven. I could be in Heaven
I could be in Heaven
I can’t remember
Yeah, I can’t remember. The last time I felt so alive.
