Monifah – One Moment

Monifah Carter, professionally known as Monifah, is an American R&B singer-songwriter. She is best known for her hits “I Miss You (Come Back Home),” “You” and “Touch It.”
Monifah‘s rich voice is the first thing you notice on her debut album, Moods … Moments, and it’s the thing that keeps the album afloat through its occasional dull spots. Where most of her mid-’90s urban soul contemporaries are hell-bent on demonstrating their technical prowess, Monifah lays back and lets the music build, texturing her vocals with a variety of different shades and styles. She can be jazzy or she can be soulful, she can belt out an uptempo number or croon a love ballad — it’s clear that she has the gift.

And, for the most part, producer Heavy D provides her with enough first-rate songs to make sure that we not only notice the gift, but that we don’t forget it once the album is through, either. Although it would be nice to hear what Monifah could contribute to the songwriting, Heavy D’s songs are varied and soulful, giving her a proper showcase for her prodigous talents. Moods … Moments does have a handful of weak songs and could have benefitted from some trimming, but that doesn’t prevent the album from being a simply stellar debut.

Monifah – One Moment

Reality TV shows generally clog up television airwaves with loads of fabricated drama, outrageous storylines and disturbing love triangles. However, every once in a while, out of the rubble of these sensationalized plots, shines through something that reminds us that there are, in fact, very real aspects of reality television. In the case of TV One’s “R&B Divas: Atlanta,” it happens to be the love shared between Monifah Carter and now-wife, Terez. We were recently able to catch up with the newly married reality star following one of her morning workouts and she gave us the details on her Hawaiian wedding ceremony, her fabulous wedding dress and baby plans.

Monifah – One Moment Lyrics:
Verse 1
Sometimes I swear I need a moment just (For Me)
All to myself without a cause or reason (For Me)
Sometimes a girl can get upset from
Dealing with all life’s pressures
If you’re supposed to be my friend then just understand it
Now name the last time you did something just (For Me)
Without it benefiting you in the process? (For Me)
I feel I owe it to myself if I don’t, nobody else will
So into my room I go…

Chorus
Alone for a second, Alone for a minute
Without you always up in my head I can think
With one moment to bring, perspective, clarity
Understand it or not, now I’m taking One moment for me, me, me, me (For Me)

Verse 2
I’m there for everybody else except (For Me)
Miss Solve All Of Your Problems, call and ask (For Me)
But now I’ve wasting all my tissues on other people’s issues
Difficult to dry my own tears now
Try not to take it personal, this ain’t for you (For Me)
I gotta find a hiding place, sanctuary for me (For Me)
If I don’t set aside some time, I’ll lose my entire mental
So into my room I go….

Chorus
Alone for a second, alone for a minute
Without you always up in my head I can think
With one moment to bring, perspective, clarity
Understand it or not, now I’m taking
One Moment for me, me, me, me (For me)

Bridge
I think it’s time I take a little bit for me (Ah ha, Ah ha)
A little bit can mean (Ah ha, Ah ha)
A little more complete (Ah ha, Ah ha)
And I’m ready to say today’s my day
But now I’m solo so into my room I go…

Chorus
Alone for a second, Alone for a minute
Without you always up in my head so I can think
With One Moment to bring, perspective, clarity
Understand it or not, now I’m taking
One Moment for me, me, me, me (For me)

Adlibs
Just for me (3x)

Don’t for you for me, Don’t take it personal
Don’t take it personal, For me…For me
