Lungley: Just Like Before

Lungley, are a British Electronic duo consisting of siblings Natalie and Matt, from South London, England. “Best described as a tie of kinship, a collision of soundtracks of youth and maturity, visiting realms of past eras, which build roads to novel beginnings.” Their decision to collaborate arose in 2014. Prior to that, the two had performed under their individual names, but often accompanied each other. Together they built up a fan following on YouTube with their vast array of covers, which have since amassed over 10 million views.

The pair had always had a strong desire to create original music together. Pretty early on into the song-writing process they knew they weren’t going to fit an anticipated or predictable mold. For Natalie, bands such as The Smashing Pumpkins, Pixies, Deftones and Nirvana were a major influence on her formative years, along with songtresses such as Fiona Apple, Bjork, Mazzy Star and Alanis Morissette. For Matt, songwriters such as Elliott Smith, Jackson C. Frank, Nick Drake and Jeff Buckley shaped his writing style. Contrastingly his production style had developed a strong connection to Trip Hop with bands like Portishead, Massive Attack and Burial. Add in their mutual penchant for left-field acoustic folk, metal and some bohemian traits, it was always going to be an unusual and intricate collaboration. It’s no surprise their music had been described as though “Mazzy Star has met Portisthead” – Liam Howe – (Sneaker Pimps). Finding their sound came natural to them, and likely due to their kinship, so did the creation process. When the time came for the pair to release their debut album, it made sense that they should share a single name, in this case, their surname: Lungley.

Lungley: Just Like Before

Lungley: Just Like Before Lyrics:
This air we’re breathing, floats up towards the ceiling, I know
That we’ve been here before

You know I’d always ask for more
Guess I’ll stay sad just like before
Wait for me, I’ll follow, we’ll leave here tomorrow
Walk blindly through the sorrow, to the point we turn the light on

This earth we’re healing searching for rooted meaning, you know
We’ve been here too long

You know I’d always ask for more
Guess you’ll stay sad just like before
Wait for me, I’ll follow, we’ll leave here tomorrow
Walk blindly through the sorrow, to the point we turn the light on

This fire’s seething, underneath we are bleeding, we know
That we don’t belong

You know I’d always ask for more
Guess we’ll stay sad just like before
Wait for me, I’ll follow, we’ll leave here tomorrow
Walk blindly through the sorrow, to the point we turn the light on
