Lily Elise: Palm Trees

Lily Elise is an independent alt-pop artist from the Bay Area. Influenced by a multitude of artists and genres, Elise pulls from each of those when writing songs, creating a unique blend of music that doesn’t live in one specific genre. Her music has been referred to as a “mesmerizing mix of … edgy pop, R&B, or even EDM” by Billboard, and “a stunning combination of pop and R&B that few can pull off” via All Things Go. Elise loves collaborating with artists from a variety of genres, which has allowed her to write for and/or feature on songs with artists such as Dillon Francis, Twin Shadow and Felix Cartal, as well as performing with legendary former Eagles frontman Don Henley.

Elise began her musical journey singing in a cappella groups, eventually finding herself on Season 1 of a then-unknown vocal competition show, The Voice. Being a contestant on the show made the young artist realize she needed to have her own voice, driving her to start writing. Solely drawing from her personal experiences, writing songs has become a form of therapy for Elise, who pours her heart and soul into each and every line. Releasing her music completely independently, Elise states, “I don’t do music for money or attention. I just want to connect with people and make them feel something.”

“Most people move to LA for the same reason, to chase dreams,” said Elise. “I think people come out here with good intentions, to give their art to the world…and then somewhere along the line you realize you gotta further your name in order to further your art, and so you start doing that…and then you kinda get lost in that hustle and forget about furthering your art. You start kissing asses and doing what people tell you you needa do to get ahead…but at the end of the day, the most important thing is that you like yourself. So ‘Palm Trees’ is kinda about saying ‘just do you’ and ‘fuck it’ to the game.”

Lily Elise: Palm Trees Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
I don’t run in circles cause they feel too square
I can try to fit in but I just don’t care
I wake up too late and I don’t do my hair
I just can’t be bothered at all
I don’t go to parties just to show my face
I already know what they’re gonna say
Everybody talking how they hate L.A
I just stay away from it all

[Pre-Chorus]
And I don’t pretend I’m the same
But I’m cool when it comes to the shade
[Chorus]
It’s just palm trees
Tell me palm trees
Oh palm trees
Show just palm trees

[Verse 2]
I see through the bullshit, it ain’t hard to tell
People only know you when they want your help
Smiling in your face but they don’t wish you well
I’ll just get my coffee to go

[Pre-Chorus]
Cause I can’t pretend I’m the same
But I’m cool when it comes to the shade

[Chorus]
It’s just palm trees
Tell me palm trees
Oh palm trees
To show just palm trees
So I ain’t gonna worry
Ain’t gonna worry for nothing
Ain’t gonna worry
Not in a hurry for nothing
Palm trees
Tell me palm trees

[Bridge]
So I won’t say anything, anything, anything at all
Cause baby I’ve heard it all, heard it all, heard it all before, oh
And life is but a beach
And your shade ain’t nothing but a palm tree to me
Life is but a beach
And your shade ain’t nothing but a palm tree

[Chorus]
It’s just palm trees
Palm trees
Is all just palm trees
Palm trees
(Ain’t gonna worry)
Life is but a beach
(Ain’t gonna worry for nothing)
And your shade ain’t nothing but a palm tree
(Ain’t gonna worry)
(Not in a hurry for nothing)
Life is but a beach
(Ain’t gonna worry for nothing)
And your shade ain’t nothing but a palm tree
(Not in a hurry for nothing)

[Outro]
Tell me palm trees
