Kyle Shedrick – Who I Am

Kyle Shedrick was born in Buffalo NY. Due to his parents’ dependency and abuse with drugs, their living conditions and lifestyle weren’t safe to raise a child; so at 8 months, Kyle’s parents sent him to live with extended family in Clinton, South Carolina, where he remained until his adult life. After graduating high school, Kyle attended Benedict College in Columbia, SC. As a member of the #1 ranked collegiate gospel choir in the nation, he had the privilege of performing alongside gospel icons and touring both nationally and internationally. Upon graduating from college, Kyle was ready to pursue a career as a solo artist, “I knew I had a unique singing ability but it was important for me to develop my own sound.” As a result of growing up listening to r&b classics, singing in church, and singing in his colleges’ gospel choir, his sound was distinctly soul. While in college, he independently studied jazz and was intrigued by its rhythm and improvisation. Kyle attributes his musical influences to artists such as Stevie Wonder, Lalah Hathaway, Ella Fitzgerald, Kim Burrell, Louis Armstrong, Lauryn Hill, Bilal, Frank Ocean, and James Fauntleroy.

Kyle Shedrick – Who I Am Lyrics:
I used to look in the mirror not knowing what I should see.
The image was blurred.
I didn’t see nobody starring back at me.
Didn’t know who I was. didn’t know who I should be.
I needed help finding me.
All I wanted to do was be a part of the puzzle.
But I was the piece that never fit.
Doubting my own self and my abilities.
And never accepting my gift.

All I ever want to do.
Is to my own self be faithful and true.
All I ever want to see.
Is my purpose the plan designed for me.
All I ever want to be.
Is my own man doing the best I can.
All I ever want to do.
Is be who I am.
And not what you want me to be.

Never had popularity it never fit me well.
I wanted my own freedom and not confined to social jail.
I had to look within and fall in love with me.
That’s when I realized my wealth.

All I ever want to do. Is to my own self be faithful and true.
All I ever want to see.
Is my purpose the plan designed for me.
All I ever want to be.
Is my own man doing the best I can.
All I ever want to do.
Is be who I am.
And not what you want me to be.

I don’t need all your money.
I’m still rich beyond compare.
I don’t need your standard.
I’ve become my bar.
All I want to be is who I am.
Can you accept me for who I am.
All I want to be is who I am.
Can you accept me for who I am.

All I ever want to do.
Is to my own self be faithful and true.
All I ever want to see.
Is my purpose the plan designed for me.
All I ever want to be.
Is my own man doing the best I can.
All I ever want to do. Is be who I am.
And not what you want me to be.
