Jenn Em – Jailkeeper

Singer + songwriter Jenn Em (née Jennifer Michelle Malsch), 22, was born and raised in the shadow of the US capitol, in small-town Chevy Chase, Maryland. The lone creative soul in a family of academic types, Jenn was playing the piano by age four, had written her first song at age six, and took up the violin at age seven. She was always singing. As a rebellious teenager she expanded her musical repertoire by venturing into the world of hip-hop and R&B. In 2008 she released a remix of “Nike Boots” by fellow Washington, D.C. native Walé (feat. Lil’ Wayne). The track exploded in the local market and provided the motivation the then seventeen-year old Jenn needed to decide to pack up and hit the road for Los Angeles. “I sang everywhere, for everyone – anyone!” she reflects about her early moments looking for a break on the West coast. Stumbling over roadblocks in life and love how young, ambitious girls do, Jenn poured her pain into her music. By chance, she met JUB Records owner + executive Jubbie Chang – with whom she grew an electric creative synergy and developed her unique musical sound. Together, they began working on Jenn’s deeply personal and inspired project, and she is now poised to share her very special vocal talent and unbelievably incredible stories on an international stage. Jenn Em is currently writing and recording her ice blue-eyed, raw-soul inspired debut EP.

JAILKEEPER (Acoustic Version)

Jenn Em – Jailkeeper Lyrics:
Went for a ride,
Took the long road, tryin’ to see what kind of trouble we’re in
And God looked down and smiled
said, “You can run but you can’t win.”
Cause you’re running to your grave
When you try to run from sin.

Jailkeeper,
How many killers did you see?
Jailkeeper,
Did you throw away your key?
Cause I got no money got no soul, do you got room there for me?
No I got no money got not soul, do you got room in jail for me?

Out of time, found the end when I had nowhere left to go.
Lost my wrong from right,
So I let the devil take control,
And I’ll get to the gates of heaven,
They’ll either let me in or they’ll let me go.

Jailkeeper,
How many killers did you see?
Jailkeeper, oh
did you throw away your key?
Cause I got no money got no soul, do you got room there for me?
No I got no money got not soul, do you got room in jail for me?

Got me heart on lockdown, nothin’ to feel jut stayin’ alive…
Jailkeeper you can keep me here
Till I die.
(Keep me till I die)

Jailkeeper,
How many killers did you see?
Jailkeeper,
Did you throw away your key?
Cause I got no money got no soul, do you got room there for me?
No I got no money got not soul, do you got room in jail for me?
Woah, for me… For me.
