There’s a new (dark) star showing on the horizon and it – or rather, he – goes by the name of Jaymes Young. With a 15-track mixtape in the works, the young LA-kid-on-the-run unveiled two songs earlier this week, both of an otherworldly pop beauty yet in a very different way. Lead single Dark Star hits hard with its wobbly beats and shimmering synths, while Wondering leans towards a softer, Fryars-like approach with little to no effects, a piano and subtle electronics.
Jaymes Young – Dark Star
Jaymes Young’s “Dark Star” now has a massive punch, thanks to Jez Dior’s rhymes and SmarterChild’s production. The remix builds the track until the final moment, highlighting the emotions of both Young and Jez Dior, and gracefully ends, kind of like a perfect ballet dance routine.
Jaymes Young – Dark Star Lyrics:
I’ve looked a long time to find you
I drifted through the universe
Just to lay
Beside you
Anywhere you want me to take you, I’ll go, yeah
But there’s things about me that you just don’t know
If I told you where I’ve been
Would you still call me baby?
And if I told you everything
Would you call me crazy?
Cause baby I’m a dark star, dark star, ohh (x2)
My heart was borne out of the fire
I lost love a thousand years ago
And still, I can’t find her
Now I don’t love like I used to, ohh
But I’ve got stories I could tell you if I want to
If I told you where I’ve been
Would you still call me baby?
And if I told you everything
Would you call me crazy?
Cause baby I’m a dark star, dark star, ohh (x2)
Ohh (x3)
If I told you where I’ve been
Would you still call me baby?
And if I told you everything
Would you call me crazy?
Cause baby I’m a dark star, dark star, ohh (x2)
