Edwyn Collins – You’ll Never Know. Always at one with an erudite lyric and a sunny tune, Collins seems to be able to write songs that have a timeless quality. Following his massive stroke a couple of years ago, the mere possibility of new material from Edwyn Collins should be celebrated, no matter the quality. Taken from his new album ‘Home Again’, the mellow lucidity of this track is itself like a celebration of a life almost lost. Always at one with an erudite lyric and a sunny tune, Collins seems to be able to write songs that have a quality so timeless that the first time you hear them you can just sense that you’ve heard them somewhere before. Of course, those less charitable would say that the man is just stuck in a mid-Eighties rut, churning out the same old jazz-pop fodder without bothering to break into a sweat. Either way, you can’t deny that this is a pleasant ditty and that there is comfort to be found in Collins’ fluid tones, as he creeps ever closer to becoming the king of the crooners. While he’s never been quite at home in any musical climate, ‘You’ll Never Know‘ at least provides us with another tune that has the safe familiarity of an old pair of slippers, or a cup of Horlicks at bedtime. Edwyn Collins – You’ll Never Know (My Love):
From the beginning.
No easy winnings.
head’s in a muddle.
and that’s the trouble with love.

you’ll never know my love, my love.
you’ll never know my love, you’ll never know, youll never know.
you’ll never know my love, my love.
you’ll never know my love.

And she, she saw right through me she knew.
My heart was toring in two.
More than a little confused.
Am I her yesterdays news.

you’ll never know my love, my love.
you’ll never know my love, you’ll never know, you’ll never know.
you’ll never know my love, my love.
you’ll never know my love.

And i can see the snowflakes falling.
My winter´s calling.
But im still stalling.
And even though i cant forget you.
My head wont let you inside my heart, inside.

you’ll never know my love, my love.
you’ll never know my love, you’ll never know, you’ll never know.
you’ll never know my love, my love.
you’ll never know my love.

you’ll never know my love…
