Cuushe – I Love You

Cuushe, aka Mayuko Hitotsuyanagi, is back with her new album – the beautiful Butterfly Case. It’s a record that falls deep into the realms of dream-pop. The sweet angelic tones of Hitotsuyanagi delivered upon the ambient electronic motion of each track is a serene experience. We caught up with Cuushe to talk about the dreams, the butterflies and the cute (not too cute) artwork. Cuushe is a Japanese artist from Kyoto, Japan. She released her debut album, Red Rocket Telepathy, in 2009 on the Japanese indie label, flau. Kyoto native dream pop artist Cuushe (who recently toured with Grouper in Japan), Using her mesmerizing airy vocals as the main instrument, Cuushe composes pop-infused electronic music that is lovable and yet uniquely different from any other song-based pop sounds out there.

Cuushe, who is greatly inspired by music like Board of Canada, L’altra, started out her musical career as a member in a collage pop band, and eventually ventured into solo-project works in 2003. Using her mesmerizing airy vocals as the main instrument, Cuushe composes pop-infused electronic music that is lovable and yet uniquely different from any other song-based pop sounds out there. Together with the delicate lyrics penned by her, the multi-talented Cuushe beautifully projects a subtle musical world that is carefully wrapped with sensitive emotion and fragile memories.
