Ann Peebles – Trouble Heartaches and Sadness

Ann Peebles is an African-American singer and songwriter who gained celebrity for her Memphis soul albums of the 1970s for Hi Records. Two of her most popular songs are “I Can’t Stand the Rain”, which she wrote with her husband Don Bryant and radio broadcaster Bernie Miller, and “I’m Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down”. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri, the seventh child of eleven. As a child she began singing in the choir of her father’s church and with the family’s group, the Peebles Choir, who regularly opened shows for gospel stars including Mahalia Jackson and the Soul Stirrers featuring Sam Cooke. She was also influenced by R&B performers, including Muddy Waters, Mary Wells and Aretha Franklin.

She began performing in clubs in St. Louis, and in the mid-1960s joined a revue led by bandleader Oliver Sain. While visiting Memphis in 1968, she sang in a club with trumpeter Gene “Bowlegs” Miller, a popular local bandleader known for helping other musicians, such as the members of the Hi Rhythm Section who played on Peebles’ recordings, get their start in the Memphis music industry.

Miller introduced her to Hi Records producer Willie Mitchell, who quickly offered her a recording contract. She gave up performing after a stroke in 2012. Peebles has been sampled by many hip-hop artists, in particular RZA and the Wu-Tang Clan. Wikipedia®.

Ann Peebles – Trouble Heartaches and Sadness Lyrics:
Whoa old man trouble
Stop knockin’ at my door
You used to be a good friend of mine
Let me tell you hang around me no more

Heartache stop knockin’ at my window
I don’t wanna hear what you have to say
You can go down your list of trouble
And be on your merry way

‘Cause I found the love I need a long time
I found the love to ease my troubled mind

Love blind hanging over my head
All of this time so it won’t rain on me
He’s my sunshine, and your loving me
Gonna set me free yeah

Mm sadness, I have no more use for you
I know you can leave me by, you were nothing for years
If I find someone to take away my trouble
Ring of sadness doing me

Well I found the love I need a long time
I found the love to ease my troubled mind
Well I found the love I need a long time
